Bald-faced Thievery

Um... hey. Yuzu here.

I've taken it upon myself to get things back on track, since it seems like all the others do is mess things up. Umi senpai, Hito, our boss Aya Shameimaru, why, even Okuu's Look-alike has been on a loop ever since I gave her that stern talking-to. If someone normally reckless and self-centred actually starts to settle down and care for others, then they have gone loopy, yes.

Gensokyo Island was in a bit of a tizzy today as its residents celebrated the birthday of one of its more infamous denizens - Baldren Gassenarl, a former army Lieutenant Colonel turned rebel leader, usurper, genocidal maniac, and unobtainum-infused cyborg. How ... typical of a Gensokyo Island citizen, really. It's no surprise that this place gets a bad rap.

Fun fact - Gen. Gregor and Baldren, though both villains, are enemies in canon. How ironic. But what a happy birthday picture!

Note Utsuho Reiuji and Kyouko Kasodani hanging out at the back of the photograph, behind Baldren and family. It's the first time they've been seen together since they realised that being BFFs was not F after all. And now that Kyouko has become best friends with Baldren, are his villainous ways rubbing off on her? Just look at her gangsterish outfit, it's like she's gone over to the dark side already. I wouldn't blame her, after all she's been through.

Baldren Gassenarl had another cause for celebration today, as he announced that his wife Sanae Kochiya was pregnant with the couple's third child. Just look at their second child Hinoko's smile in that picture on top. That happy, innocent, clueless smile. Do you think she knows where babies come from? Actually, judging from the manga I've seen her reading, I'd say... I'd say she wonders why boys and girls actually need each other to reproduce.

Speaking of which, I may also have discovered the reason for our boss Aya Shameimaru having gone on a bender these few days. You know, running around like a crazed maniac ... well, she does that all the time, but more than usual (the running part and the crazed part, both). The sudden obsession with chilli dogs.  Getting to go fast.

You see, today Shou Toramaru also announced that her wife, Aya, was pregnant with their third child. That explains so much. Especially the hot dog bit. Wha ... don't look at me like that! You watched Rosemary's Baby, didn't you? It's kind of the same thing. And if you didn't watch it you definitely should.

You know the part where Rosemary starts eating hot dogs ... I mean raw steak in the kitchen? That explains everything! Mmm... tiger style hot dogs.

Also, in other news today, a mail ship arrived from Yui Island bringing a letter from Juntaro, second son and third of four children of Reimu Hakurei and Junya Ohta. It seems he has finally reached that pinnacle of perfection in his life as a traveller - getting his hair dyed a funky psychadelic colour!

He ... kind of looks like Umi senpai, actually. Did he land on an island dedicated to idol worship or something? I'm sure his parents are on Ecs ... I mean in ecstasy over this news. Congratulations to them and their fortunate son for surviving another day. Ah, another day, another ordeal.

Idol worshipping? At least he's not bone idle. Also, that girl in the picture is supposed to be Kawaiine. As in like Hatsune or Kagamine. Look it up online.

Now, let's cut to the chase. Today's character profile, dutifully reassembled by a Hito now wised up to the wiles of one of Gensokyo Island's more mischievous and eccentric individuals, is about Marisa Kirisame, the infamous kleptomaniac witch. Keep your hands on your valuables and pretty much anything that isn't on fire or nailed down, because she'll 'borrow' it from under your nose. Over to you, Marisa.

Marisa Kirisame
All information correct as of 21 January 2015

Ah, the nostalgia from when Gensokyo Island was young. It was Marisa who made it what it is today.

Name: Marisa Kirisame
Nickname: Marisa
Date of Birth: 15th August 1996
Personality: Outgoing Entertainer
Favourite Colour: Black
Quotation: "I'll borrow it!"

Marisa Kirisame is a self-proclaimed 'ordinary magician' who is best known as the second protagonist of the Touhou Project series. She first appeared in the second official game, Touhou 2: Story of Eastern Wonderland, as an antagonist, and since then has appeared in every main series game as a playable character, as well as featuring in most of the side games. All the Windows Touhou games also feature an image of Marisa's face as their icon.

As an ordinary human, Marisa in canon is a hard worker who researches and experiments in order to perfect her magic spells. However, she also has a zany side aimed at maximising her danmaku firepower, speed, and getting away with as much as treasuring hunting and/or petty theft as she can without facing any repercussions. Guess which side of her features on Gensokyo Island? Marisa is a person of extremes, and it shows in the way she interacts with other islanders.

Marisa also has a special place in the history of Gensokyo Island. Along with her husband Miko Toyosatomimi, she helped define the theme of Gensokyo Island in its early days, which decided the tone and nature of the further developments that have led to the present state of affairs. Let's take a closer look!

Marisa and Miko on their happiest day, and a later holiday with their first child Shoutaro.

Husband: Miko Toyosatomimi
Best Friend: Alice Margatroid, formerly Miko Toyosatomimi
Children: Shoutaro, Mariko

Marisa and Miko started off as best friends before becoming romantically involved, and their relationships were at near-max all throughout this period. It was as if they were made for each other, and after one failed proposal by Miko, Marisa finally successfully proposed and they were married. This isn't an all too unfamiliar story to anyone who has played Tomodachi Life - sometimes a certain pairing just hits it off instantly.

However, what's special about their relationship was the day when the two of them, still best friends at that point, broke out into a violent fight. Again, that's not unusual, but the fact that they were best friends, had maximum relations, and that the island only had 8 residents at the time meant it was a heck of a big deal, and it was also Gensokyo Island's first ever violent fight.

Watching the two besties blazing with flames and chucking things at each other got me thinking - isn't this what the residents of the actual Gensokyo do all the time? Fight each other? And then they settle down afterwards with tea and biscuits and become fast friends? That was how Marisa and Miko, and a little bit of imagination, transformed what is normally one of Tomodachi Life's most annoying aspects into something which pretty much characterises my entire island. It also made me determined to get the two of them married, my first OTP among my islanders, regardless of how disdainful of canon that might be.

Now, fights or rather danmaku battles are one of the most entertaining things that happen every day on Gensokyo Island, and I always get a chuckle checking on the island in the morning to see who's having a go at each other this time. Of course, dealing with the aftereffects - depressed islanders, or worse a potential breakup - is still a nuisance, but just watching the characters battling it out is just so hilarious and also cathartic. It's practically a ritual on Gensokyo Island at this point.

Since I've already used so much space blathering on about why Marisa and Miko are special to Gensokyo Island, I'll leave the discussion of their actual relationship and their children on Miko's page.

Alice Margatroid: "What about me?!"

Food Preferences:
All-time Favourite: Peking Duck
Worst Ever: Smoked Salmon

Okuu's Look-alike Rating - Peking Duck: Like. I mean, I think the actual Peking duck is tasty, but I would never touch all the condiments that come along with it. Also, it's way overpriced wherever it can be bought. So, it's one of those things that I wouldn't mind eating but I'd never go out of my way to buy it for myself. If it was free, however...

This is the best travel photo it's ever possible to take. Just ask anyone who's played the game. And yes, it's with the 'in-game' camera.

Apartment: Apt. 107, formerly Apt. 106
Islander Rating: GOD TIER

Marisa is the highest-levelled character on the island. It really comes as a surprise, considering that she was the first person to express a food preference or rather aversion, with that Smoked Salmon tanking her to Level 1, 0 happiness in the first few days of Gensokyo Island. However, her love for Peking Duck not only overcame that but sent her skyrocketing to the top of the charts.

Let me explain, again, some technicalities which are only of interest to those aiming to maximise happiness gains. As I explained under ZUN's entry, the best way to level up a character would be to have their All-time favourite food, and preferably also their Favourite food as 1/4 fullness items. However, the monetary value of the item also affects the amount of happiness which is gained. Since Marisa likes Peking Duck, a relatively expensive food at $30 for half fullness, eating one of that gives her around 3/4 a happiness level, and since I only feed islanders when they have a completely empty stomach, Marisa's gains from a 1/2 fullness item outweigh in the long run ZUN's gains from a 1/4 fullness item, although ZUN would gain happiness more quickly if I fed him 3/4 fullness worth of food at a time. Theoretically, the fastest possible happiness gain would be if a Mii's two favourite foods were Caviar and Truffle, the two most expensive 1/4 fullness foods. That would probably earn two levels for 3/4 fullness worth of food, crazy!

Blah, blah, blah. Anyway, Marisa has the highest level on the island because her all-time favourite food is an extremely valuable one. But most importantly, she's just fun to play with, and it's always a delight to interact with her.

Marisa is zany, loopy, and has a crazy stare and wacky smile on her face at all times. She's the kind that craves action and excitement, the life of the party, and she's completely unrestrained and uninhibited. And, knowing her propensity toward rampant larceny, it'll only be a matter of time before she steals your precious thing. You've been warned!

She should ideally have the black Witch Hat from the Witch Outfit, but I don't have it yet! I'll update once I do!
